Job description

An opportunity is available for a Street Works Assistant working in our Castle Donington depot. Reporting to the Street Works Team Leader, you will carry out the street works administration for National Grid’s operational teams. Showcasing your knowledge of street works legislation and excellent communication skills, you’ll be able to advise and explain street works processes to our internal and external stakeholders.

As part of our hybrid working approach, this role offers a mix of office and home working. Hybrid working can only be considered once your initial training is complete and is subject to business need.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Issuing compliant street works permits, notices, and associated notifications in the relevant system for operational teams.
  2. Being a point of contact for operational teams, providing guidance and support on street works matters.
  3. Liaising with Highway Authorities regarding street works activities.
  4. Liaising with contractors regarding street works performance.
  5. Dealing with non-compliances issued by Highway Authorities, including inspections, penalties, and charges.
  6. Raising and paying invoices.
  7. Updating systems to ensure data accuracy.
  8. Providing information related to street works as requested.
  9. Attending meetings virtually or in person to represent the team.
  10. Assisting with internal training and answering general street works calls.
  11. Supporting team tasks and contributing to meetings.
  12. Traveling to meet stakeholders as required.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of street works legislation and systems, especially Street Manager.
  • Strong interpersonal, literacy, and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to prioritize a busy workload with a proactive attitude.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach.
  • Aspiring to improve and grow within the role.
