Job description

Contract type: Street Lighting Electrician

Schedule: Full-Time

Equans is a renowned energies & services contractor and a proud member of the Bouygues global industrial group. Our expertise spans the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings and critical infrastructure worldwide.

We have a great opportunity for a Street Lighting Electrician to work on a street lighting contract, specialising in the maintenance, installation, and repair of street lighting across various locations in the North East. The ideal candidate will ensure that street lighting operates efficiently and safely, contributing to public safety and energy efficiency. This role involves routine inspections, emergency repairs, and being on the on-call rota covering call-outs for the R&C street lighting contract as well as Area 14, which spans from Berwick-upon-Tweed down to the North Yorkshire borders.

Key activities

  1. Install, maintain, and repair street lighting, including wiring, fixtures, and feeder pillars.
  2. Diagnose and resolve electrical issues in street lighting.
  3. Hold AM2 qualification and 2391, as the person filling this role will need to be our NICEIC Supervisor.
  4. Schedule inspections and test and inspect to BS7671.
  5. Operate mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs) to access lighting equipment at heights.
  6. Respond to emergency lighting issues, restoring service promptly to minimize disruption.
  7. Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including materials used.
  8. Test and inspect electrical systems in compliance with BS 7671 and perform tasks like SWA jointing and installing cutouts.
  9. Participate in the emergency call-out rota (night work) for Redcar & Cleveland and the Area 14 network.
  10. Complete necessary documentation on electronic devices or paperwork, such as job sheets.
  11. If applicable, install traffic management (Chapter 8), including signage and guarding.
  12. Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations, ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation.
  13. Protect the safety of the workforce, the public, and vehicles by ensuring that all works are properly secured and managed.
  14. Fully qualified electrician, holding an NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation or equivalent qualification.
  15. Previous experience in street lighting or similar work.
  16. City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent testing and inspection qualification.
  17. Strong understanding of UK electrical standards, particularly related to public infrastructure.
  18. Full, clean UK driving license, with a preference for candidates holding a category C1 license.
  19. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
