About the role (External)

About the team

The role is within the National Access Planning team, responsible for managing the Access Planning Framework, from Engineering Access Statements to late notice engineering access requests.

The Access Planning Framework includes the timeline, principles, and processes that Network Rail follows when planning engineering work.

What does the average day look like?

The National Access Planning team provides expertise, advice, and assurance to the rail industry, supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of engineering access plans and their impact on the railway and its users.

The Strategy & Planning Assistant supports this by:

• Producing national documents reflecting the engineering access plans required by route teams.
• Maintaining documents in SharePoint, acting as document controller for version control and access.
• Liaising with Network Rail teams to ensure information accuracy, managing changes and deadlines for publication.
• Reporting on key performance indicators periodically.
• Supporting national meetings of the National Access Planning team.
• Providing administrative support and managing contact via shared inbox.
• Monitoring and auditing internal processes, recommending improvements.
• Maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Please note: This role requires some travel and overnight stays for national meetings throughout the year.
