Job summary

Marchant Recruitment in Bath, England, seeks an experienced School Business Manager (SBM) to lead the financial, operational, HR and administrative functions for a permanent January start within a primary federation.

Reporting to the Headteacher and Governors, you will oversee budgeting, payroll, audits, procurement, HR administration, SCR compliance, premises, health and safety, and present clear financial updates to the SLT.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in financial management, budget preparation, and accounting (school or academy trust experience essential).
• Strong leadership, strategic negotiation, and interpersonal management skills.
• Active enhanced DBS check is required.

Responsibilities

• Take strategic responsibility for multi-year budget planning and financial forecasting.
• Line manage administrative, finance, site, and catering staff.
• Oversee school HR functions, SCR maintenance, and staff contracts.
• Lead procurement processes for high-value contracts to maximise value.
• Oversee estate planning, health and safety compliance, and capital grant funding.
• Present financial statements and updates at Governor meetings.
