Operator/Maintainer/Fitter (Strategic Plant)

Purpose of the Role
To operate and maintain the Colas Rail Kirow Crane, Track Relaying Machines, and other plant owned or operated by Colas Rail to ensure contracted work for Network Rail is fulfilled in terms of reliability and availability.
Key Accountabilities
- Safety: Support the implementation of the Colas Rail SHEQ strategy and initiatives to deliver continuous improvement.
- Profitability: Ensure work is carried out efficiently and cost-effectively, providing value for money and maintaining profitability.
- Quality: Deliver high-quality work on time and within budget, ensuring pride in the service provided.
- Respect: Treat colleagues and clients fairly and consistently, understanding their needs and requirements.
Key Tasks
- Report to the SPG Planning and Maintenance Team Leaders, providing technical support and liaising with other departments.
- Complete detailed reports on failures or breakdowns for review.
- Perform safety checks and communicate professionally with customers.
- Respond to service faults, report issues promptly, and undertake necessary repairs and maintenance.
- Assist with routine maintenance on other machines, and ensure compliance with safety and operational protocols.
- Undertake lifting operations, use spill kits responsibly, and shut down machinery safely.
- Participate in safety briefings, training, and assessments, including on-call duties and shift work.
- Maintain documentation accurately and participate in company safety initiatives.
- Possess a valid UK driving license and be willing to travel and lodge away when required.
Person Specification
- Ability to operate Kirow Crane, Track Relaying Machines, and other plant according to standards and instructions.
- Self-motivated, with a full UK driving license, willing to travel and lodge away as needed.
Qualifications/Experience
- Able to work shifts including days, nights, and weekends.
- Competent in operating machinery, maintaining technical competencies, and understanding technical drawings.
- Physically fit, medically cleared, and reliable.
- Structured problem solver, team player, with relevant apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 qualifications in mechanical, hydraulics, or electronics.
