We're looking for aStrategic Lead for Highway Maintenance & Operationto drive forward our ambitious plans for a modern, resilient highways network that meets the needs of residents, businesses, and future generations.

What's the role all about?

This is more than just managing roads it's about shaping the backbone of our borough. You'll lead a multi-disciplinary team covering street lighting, drainage, structures, flood risk, and more. You'll champion safety, innovation, and value for money, ensuring our highways are maintained to the highest standards.

You'll work closely with local communities, elected members, and regional partners to identify priorities, secure investment, and deliver real outcomes. Whether it's developing a new asset strategy or responding to complex infrastructure challenges, you'll be at the forefront of change.

What will your day look like?

  • Leading a team of engineers and technical experts to deliver core highway services.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders and partners to unlock funding and drive innovation.
  • Overseeing complex maintenance programmes and ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice.
  • Championing a place-based approach that reflects the needs and aspirations of our communities.

Who are we looking for?

You're a strategic thinker with deep experience in highways operations and asset management. You've led high-performing teams, navigated complex challenges, and delivered results in a local authority or similar setting.

You're confident, collaborative, and committed to continuous improvement. And above all, you care about creating safe, accessible, and future-ready infrastructure.
