Strategic Lead – Building Control and Regulation

The Role

We have an exceptional opportunity for a senior manager to join our Building Control service to oversee the Councils work under the Building Safety Act and day-to-day Building Control functions.

This exciting and challenging role has been created to take the operational lead and have overall management responsibility for the Councils statutory and regulatory Building Control functions including fee earning and non-fee earning operations.You will lead a high performing and award-winning team of staff and work closely with the Councils Planning service; our Housing ALMO - Solihull Community Housing; and project delivery teams.

As the Strategic Lead, this will provide you with an excellent opportunity to grow the team’s portfolio of work – building experience and opportunity for continued professional development – something that will be integral in an evolving Building Control arena.This will include links through the BSR and growing our already excellent local portfolio of commercial partners and customers.

Key Requirements

To meet the challenge and be successful in the role you will have:

  • A registration at a minimum of Class 2B-F Building Inspector and a registrationat Class 4 Technical Managerrole.
  • A Degree Qualification in a relevant Built Environment orassociatedtechnical discipline andCharteredMembershipof a relevantprofessional body.
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of working within a Local Authority Building Control service, and of leading professional people whilst fostering an environment of continued professional development.
  • Extensive experience of delivering high quality customer service including the abilitytoestablishanddevelop positive relationships withstakeholders and customers – helping to sustain and generate business.
  • Financial managementand contract procurement experience.
  • Ability to support the management of the service area and the development of longer-term strategies.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle, to enable you to move around sites in the Borough where much of the team’s work is delivered.
