Job summary

Macfarlane Packaging is seeking a proactive Buyer to manage stock across sites, forecast inventory, and optimise working capital. You will work with procurement, sales and logistics to ensure product availability while controlling costs and maintaining data accuracy.

The role demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise in a fast-paced environment. You’ll engage with suppliers and internal teams to drive efficiency and continuous improvement.

• Experience in stock management or purchasing roles.
• Strong numerical and data analysis skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational ability.

• Good cross-functional communication and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Manage stock levels across sites to match demand and service levels.
• Forecast inventory using data and customer insight.
• Monitor aged, excess, and slow-moving stock to improve margin.
• Raise and manage purchase orders for standard and non-standard items.
• Expedite orders and resolve supply or cost issues.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and GRNs across systems.
• Negotiate pricing, terms, and service levels with suppliers.
• Support tender processes for favourable terms.
• Coordinate with Sales/Procurement/Logistics to align stock planning.
• Build relationships across departments and with suppliers.
