Job summary

West Dean is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead health, safety and fire safety across the estate. You will provide expert guidance, ensure compliance with UK legislation and promote a proactive safety culture.

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Estates and Campus Services, you will manage risk assessments, audits, investigations and training, while delivering monthly dashboards and quarterly reports to senior management.

Qualifications

• You will have a strong understanding of UK health and safety legislation, risk management and compliance.
• Experience carrying out risk assessments, audits and investigations in a multi-building environment.
• Experience developing codes of practice and safe operating procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve West Dean's Safety Management System, policies and procedures.
• Ensure risk assessments are completed, reviewed and recorded.
• Advise managers on safe working practices and compliance.
• Coordinate health and safety training, including through the e-learning system.
• Carry out safety inspections and audits, produce reports and track corrective actions.
• Lead the reporting and investigation of accidents and incidents, including RIDDOR where required.
• Develop and review fire safety, emergency evacuation and incident response arrangements.
• Attend Health & Safety Committee meetings and liaise with external regulators.
