Job summary

North Somerset Council in North Somerset is seeking an experienced Finance Business Partner to work with the Director of Environment, Assets and Transport Services on strategic financial direction and governance. The role offers exposure to major capital programmes, transformation projects and high-level financial decision-making within a public sector context.

Reporting to the S151 Officer, you will partner with senior leaders, provide robust financial challenge, and support service improvement

Qualifications

• Fully qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, or CIMA or equivalent).
• Experience in local government finance, ideally in a senior business partnering or strategic finance role.
• Strong business partnering skills and ability to communicate with senior leaders.
• Strategic mindset linking financial data to service outcomes.
• Proven resilience, adaptability and ability to manage competing priorities.
• Proven track record leading budget-setting and forecasting, and delivering savings.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic financial insight and challenge to senior leaders.
• Prepare clear financial reports and translate data into actionable insights.
• Identify efficiency savings and service transformation opportunities.
• Ensure financial governance and compliance with CIPFA codes.
• Engage stakeholders across the organisation to embed financial considerations in planning.
• Oversee capital and revenue impacts from the capital programme and grants.
• Manage and develop a small finance team and contribute to service development.
