About the Opportunity

We are currently recruiting for a Strategic Engineering Lead (Nuclear Reactors) to join our Decommissioning Projects business. Due to the rapid growth of our business in the civil nuclear site decommissioning arena, we require more support to deliver and expand on our existing decommissioning expertise.

The Decommissioning business provides an exciting mixture of consultancy, engineering and project management support, along with delivery of challenging decommissioning related EPC projects, to major clients in the UK across both the civil nuclear and defence industries, including Dounreay, Sellafield Limited, Urenco and Magnox. Overseas, we are delivering similarly interesting and exciting projects across the globe including projects for clients in Central & Eastern Europe and Japan.

We are very proud to have supported these clients for many years, and our partnering arrangements will enable us to sustain and enhance this support in the long-term. We also deliver a number of projects for other private companies and academia needing decommissioning solutions.

Role Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate teams or provide technical consultancy to support complex decommissioning challenges, primarily in the decommissioning of legacy nuclear facilities, including reactor segmentation and support systems.
  • Develop strategies, plans, and implement activities across the project lifecycle, including bidding, design, and site execution.
  • Apply expertise in project preparation and delivery, including technologies and techniques for legacy facility decommissioning, demolition, and land remediation.
  • Conduct cost estimating, schedule preparation, and risk analysis to ensure successful project delivery.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in nuclear decommissioning, especially civil nuclear reactor sites.
  • Knowledge of best practices and lessons learned for civil nuclear reactor decommissioning.
  • Innovative thinking and familiarity with approaches from various industries.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to improve decommissioning efficiencies.
  • Membership of a professional institute; chartership preferred.
  • Self-motivated with leadership skills and a strong technical background.
  • Proven experience in team leadership and consultancy roles.
  • Excellent communication skills; Japanese language skills are advantageous.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders.
  • Experience with project requirements from FEED to EPC.

Additional experience in EDF or Magnox projects is beneficial:

EDF Experience:

  • Knowledge of AGR plant and regulatory requirements.

Magnox Experience:

  • Experience with Magnox plant decommissioning and waste management.
