You will lead complex financial assessments, manage external relationships, and drive high-stakes decisions across diverse tasks.

The role requires proactive analysis, robust Excel modelling, and the ability to present clear, evidence-based options to ministers and senior officials.

Qualifications

• Public or private sector corporate finance and restructuring experience.
• Ability to react to unplanned restructuring situations.
• Deliver results at pace in challenging environments.
• Explain complex financial and legal concepts to stakeholders.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at senior levels.
• Experience representing an organisation externally.
• Strong IT skills to use MS Office, AI and build Excel models.
• Professionally qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Undertake reviews into restructuring situations and make recommendations to senior colleagues.
• Coordinate outsourcing to accountancy and law firms and perform due diligence in Excel.
• Incorporate financial and non-financial data to produce integrated advice.
• Manage transactions (eg mergers) through to completion with forecasting and funding payments.
• Raise awareness of restructuring risks across the DfE and funded providers.
• Engage with government, stakeholders and the finance profession to keep best practice.
• Manage stakeholders’ needs to meet Departmental objectives.
• Link policy and delivery within intervention and restructuring environments.
• Contribute to wider management of the FFO group, including risk management.
• Set clear objectives for colleagues and provide regular feedback.
