Job summary

Northumberland County Council is seeking an experienced Ecologist to join the Planning Service's team of ecologists. You will provide specialist advice across development management and strategy, review planning applications, and support biodiversity net gain and habitat assessments.

Based in Northumberland, the role involves coordinating with landowners to establish habitat banks, advising other services, and helping shape the new Local Plan with housing targets and growth ambitions while

Qualifications

• Degree in Ecology or related subject and understanding of nature conservation legislation.
• Ability to identify habitats and species and assess their significance.
• Good communicator able to influence stakeholders and manage a busy caseload.

Responsibilities

• Review planning applications and advise on ecological matters.
• Provide specialist ecological input to policy development and Local Plan work.
• Collaborate with services across the Council to protect habitats and species.
• Work with landowners to develop and oversee habitat banks.
