Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Senior Procurement Buyer in Reading to lead end-to-end procurement for major defence and energy programmes. You will provide strategic direction, shape pricing strategies and mobilise supply chains across complex contracts.

The role requires MCIPS or Chartered status, a related degree, and extensive experience in regulated environments. Hybrid working and flexible patterns are available, with a focus on delivering compliant, cost-effective outcomes.

Qualifications

• MCIPS or Chartered status is required or highly preferred.
• Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Extensive procurement leadership experience in defence, nuclear, infrastructure, energy or heavily regulated environments.
• Proven success in strategic sourcing, category management and high-value procurement.
• Experience managing complex contracts and commercial negotiations; knowledge of NEC/FIDIC desirable.
• Demonstrable supplier relationship, performance, risk and resilience management capabilities.
• Experience supporting major bids, capture activity and programme mobilisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex, high-value procurement across the full lifecycle: sourcing, tendering, evaluation, negotiation and award.
• Provide senior procurement and commodity-management advice to programme, bid and capture teams.
• Lead contract and framework agreement development and negotiation with Legal and Commercial teams.
• Optimise supplier bases and approved supplier lists to meet technical, quality, security and regulatory standards.
• Ensure procurement activities comply with governance, audit, and defence/energy regulatory frameworks.
• Maintain awareness of regulatory and commodity-market developments and adjust strategies accordingly.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Projects, Quality, Security, Commercial and Legal teams to embed requirements in sourcing strategies.
• Provide direction and oversight to procurement support resources.
