RGB Recruitment is seeking a Commercial Director in Birmingham for a full‑time role with a salary of £85,000–£95,000 per year. The successful candidate will lead commercial management across an established design and consultancy practice, overseeing contractual risk, project governance and viability on multiple schemes.

The role requires a strong background in construction, engineering, contracting or multidisciplinary consultancy with senior‑level experience.

Qualifications

• Significant commercial management experience within construction, engineering, contracting or consultancy.
• Strong understanding of construction contracts, particularly JCT and NEC.
• Experience managing commercial risk and project profitability.
• Experience across complex projects involving multiple consultants and stakeholders.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to advise senior management on commercial matters.
• Commercially minded, practical and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Review contracts, fee proposals, scopes of work and consultant appointments.
• Provide commercial advice on JCT/NEC contracts, novation, liabilities and professional indemnity matters.
• Identify and manage commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support project teams with change management and additional fee recovery.
• Advise on commercial disputes, claims and risk mitigation.
• Improve commercial reporting, processes and governance across the business.
• Work with senior management and project teams to provide commercial guidance and support.
• Mentor colleagues to improve commercial awareness across the business.
