Strategic Buyer (Manufacturing & Supply Chain)
Location: Birmingham
Salary: 47,000 per annum


Are you an experienced Strategic Buyer with a strong background in supply chain, transport and logistics? Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment where stakeholder management and procurement excellence are key?
Pertemps, on behalf of our client, is seeking a highly motivated Strategic Buyer to join a dynamic procurement team. This role is ideal for a procurement professional with experience in Transport and Capital Expenditure (Capex) categories, who is looking to make a significant impact within a forward-thinking organisation.

The Role:
As a Strategic Buyer, you will be responsible for managing critical supplier relationships and procurement processes, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality service delivery. You will work closely with internal stakeholders to develop and execute procurement strategies, driving efficiencies and continuous improvement in procurement operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage supplier relationships and procurement activities within the Transport and Capex categories.
  2. Develop and execute procurement strategies to drive cost savings and operational efficiencies.
  3. Lead negotiations, contract management, and supplier performance reviews.
  4. Support the development of procurement policies and procedures in line with corporate objectives.
  5. Partner with Operations and Engineering teams to assess project requirements and contribute to cost-effective solutions.
  6. Coordinate tenders, RFQs, and supplier selection processes.
  7. Monitor market trends and industry developments to ensure a competitive and innovative procurement approach.
  8. Oversee compliance with internal procurement policies and regulatory requirements.
  9. Manage multiple projects, prioritising tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
  10. Provide commercial and strategic insights to stakeholders to support business decisions.

About You:
  1. Proven experience in procurement, specifically within Supply Chain, Transport, Logistics, or Capex categories.
  2. Strong analytical skills and ability to handle numerical data with attention to detail.
  3. Excellent negotiation and supplier management skills.
  4. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects under pressure.
  5. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  6. Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  7. Degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  8. CIPS qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
