Job description

Overview

An exciting opportunity in the novel area of engineering biology. This major chemical business is investing in its capability to create bio-based ingredients for markets including personal care and cosmetics. Their fermentation team is looking for a strain engineering specialist.

Responsibilities

You will be working on full strain engineering projects to:

  • develop strains
  • transfer the process to full scale production

You will be working with fungi, bacteria and yeast with the aim to produce new sustainable bio-based ingredients to replace traditional chemical and petrochemical feedstocks. The new generation of ingredients are for use in everyday products such as cosmetics.

Qualifications

We are interested to hear from PhD qualified scientists with:

  • a technical background in strain engineering of fungi, bacteria or yeast
  • this is likely to include culture and genetic manipulation
  • ideally experience of a variety of microbial systems
  • experience of transferring bioprocesses from pilot scale to industrial plants.
Technical Skills

Your technical skills will include advanced molecular biology techniques such as:

  • Cloning
  • DNA and RNA manipulation
  • organism transformation.
