Job description

Your new companyHMP Channing's Wood is a Category C men's prison located in Ogwell, near Newton Abbot in Devon, England. It is managed by His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service and has a strong focus on rehabilitation, education, and therapeutic support. Your new role

This role will require you to work in the Stores department, where you will be responsible for processing laundry and inputting data. You will also be responsible for escorting contractors safely around the site, ensuring that the strict policies are adhered to, to ensure the safety of visitors, staff members and inmates. You will be responsible for moving the contractors around the site in their designated areas as well as supervising their tools and machinery and ensuring they leave the site when required.
Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Stock Management:
    Receive, check, store, and issue materials, tools, and equipment used by maintenance and facilities teams.
  • Inventory Control:
    Maintain accurate records of stock levels using manual logs or digital systems, ensuring timely reordering of supplies.
  • Goods In/Out:
    Handle deliveries and dispatches, ensuring items are correctly logged and stored or distributed.
  • Health & Safety Compliance:
    Ensure storage areas are clean, safe, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
  • Support Maintenance Teams:
    Provide tools and materials to electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and other tradespeople as needed.
  • Security Awareness:
    Work within strict prison security protocols, including tool control and restricted access procedures.


Hours are Monday to Friday, 8-4.30pm.
Standard Rate: £15.84 per hour inclusive of holiday

What you'll need to succeed
You must be fully security vetted and physically capable, as the role involves frequent manual handling. A valid driving licence, computer literacy, and strong communication skills are essential. While a forklift licence is advantageous, it is not a requirement.
