We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Desford team as a Stores Operative.

The role involves managing site stores effectively, re-ordering spare parts & consumables at appropriate times, and ensuring safe storage in line with COSHH requirements.

Your duties include but are not limited to:

  • Conducting daily and end-of-month checks of fuel and chemical stock levels.
  • Checking PPE and other production consumables daily.
  • Managing stock levels using a CMMS (computerized maintenance management system).
  • Carrying out periodic stock checks of all spares (cycle counts).
  • Taking remedial actions based on stock level assessments.
  • Supplying goods/parts to all factory areas as required.
  • Collecting and transporting goods to/from the site.
  • Assisting engineering teams in creating kits for planned maintenance.
  • Liaising with management and suppliers to meet delivery deadlines and achieve cost efficiency.
  • Ensuring the correct PPE is always worn.
  • Reporting health and safety concerns to the appropriate personnel.
  • Controlling stores spending against budgets.
  • Assisting in planning and organizing parts around maintenance shutdowns.

About You:

  • Proficient in MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Knowledge or willingness to develop knowledge in a heavy-industry environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience in heavy industry and/or engineering background preferred.
  • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and able to work independently.

The role requires no formal qualifications but includes a minimum of 3 months training under supervision, with competency checks on all duties.

Training includes:

  • Company Induction
  • Manual Handling, COSHH, Lock Off (LOTOTO), Working at Height, Spill Kit/Containment, PPE Awareness (including face fit testing), Working Safely, Fire Awareness, Noise Awareness, FLT (as required), and other relevant training.
