Job summary

Talent Finder is recruiting a Stores Insite Operative for a Trafford Park client, managing around 2,500 stock items and supporting engineering, maintenance and production operations. The role involves stock control, component identification, data analysis, and raising requisitions to keep critical spares available on site.

You will work with the engineering team to maintain stock accuracy, investigate discrepancies and explore cost-saving sourcing opportunities using Excel and an ERP system

Job description

Stores Insite Operative | Trafford Park | Full Time | £48,000 per annum

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm, with occasional out-of-hours requirements

Our client provides engineering components and stores support to industrial customers. They are looking for an experienced Stores Insite Operative to manage approximately 2,500 stock items at a client site in Trafford Park, supporting engineering, maintenance and production operations.

The Role

As a Stores Insite Operative, you will act as the on-site representative for our client, ensuring critical engineering spares are available when needed. The role combines stock control, technical component identification, data analysis, purchasing requisitions, client liaison and cost-saving initiatives.

You will work closely with the client's engineering team to maintain stock accuracy, investigate discrepancies, manage replenishment and research alternative components. The role requires practical engineering-environment experience, sound component knowledge and medium-to-advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

The working day starts at our client's nearby site to collect deliveries and resolve any discrepancies before attending the client site.

Key Responsibilities

• Build effective relationships with engineering, maintenance, production and purchasing teams
• Provide updates on stock availability, outstanding orders, delivery progress, shortages and urgent requirements
• Raise purchase requisitions promptly and coordinate urgent engineering-spares requests
• Manage competing priorities and work towards KPIs covering requisition turnaround, on-time deliveries, stock accuracy and cost savings

Goods Inwards & Stock Control

• Receive and inspect approximately 4–5 deliveries per day against purchase orders and technical specifications
• Manage approximately 2,500 stock items, maintaining accurate records, part numbers, locations and minimum/maximum stock levels
• Carry out daily stock counts, investigate discrepancies and monitor stock usage and replenishment
• Identify obsolete, duplicated, excess and slow-moving stock, maintaining an organised stores environment

Engineering & Technical Support

• Identify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and process components, including bearings, seals, motors, sensors, valves and fasteners
• Use part numbers, dimensions, manufacturer information, technical data sheets and catalogues to verify component specifications
• Research alternative components and work with engineers to confirm suitability before any substitution
• Escalate unidentified components and urgent breakdown requirements appropriately

Cost Savings & Systems

• Identify alternative sourcing opportunities to reduce component costs and improve margins without compromising technical suitability
• Record cost savings and contribute to monthly reporting on stock accuracy, availability and service performance
• Use Microsoft Excel, the company's Excel-based stock database and Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) to maintain records, analyse data and support reporting

Requirements

• Experience working in an engineering-based environment, such as engineering stores, maintenance, manufacturing or industrial operations
• Practical knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and process components
• Ability to identify engineering parts using part numbers, dimensions, manufacturer information and technical data sheets
• Medium-to-advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including interpreting and analysing data
• Strong stock-control and inventory-management skills, including daily stock counts and investigating discrepancies
• Excellent attention to detail, organisation and problem-solving abilities
• Strong communication skills and confidence liaising with engineering and maintenance teams
• Ability to research alternative components and work with engineers to verify suitability
• Commercial awareness and a proactive approach to identifying cost-saving opportunities
• Ability to work under pressure and prioritise urgent requirements
• Full driving licence or a clear plan to obtain one within three months
• Flexibility to support occasional out-of-hours requirements
• Experience in engineering stores, plant maintenance or industrial production
• Knowledge of D365 or a comparable ERP system
• Experience identifying alternative components or delivering cost-saving improvements
