Description

This role has a starting salary of £10,114 per annum, based on a 15-hour working week. The full-time equivalent salary is £24,275 per annum.

An exciting opportunity is available to join the small and friendly team at the Basingstoke Canal Centre in Mytchett as a Storekeeper/Maintenance Operative. The centre offers a wide range of visitor facilities, including a campsite, boat hire, function room, shop, children's play area, and seasonal events.

The role will be based on-site, helping to keep everything safe and running smoothly. Work patterns can be discussed with the successful candidate, with occasional out-of-hours support or flexible working hours throughout the week to support the Centre's operation.

About the Role

Each day will be varied, but an example of daily tasks includes:

  • Liaising with the visitor team and canal rangers
  • Emptying bins and checking grounds
  • Opening the swing bridge for visitors
  • Carrying out health and safety checks
  • Performing grounds maintenance (e.g., strimming, leaf blowing)
  • Assisting with events or coordinating with contractors

This is a practical role (training provided), requiring a friendly presence and excellent customer service skills. As a small team member, adaptability and flexibility are essential to support the centre's needs. Strong organizational skills are necessary to maintain effective records and health and safety compliance.
