Job Description:

Our Store Services is looking for an Assistant Manager to join their effective operation.

Delivering an exceptional cleaning operation within the best luxury department store in the world is no small ask and it is the proud responsibility of our Store Services team to achieve this excellence every day. At the heart of the operation is the Assistant Manager role; a high energy, people-centric position within the team which drives our ambition forward.

About the Role

Team management is the main purpose of this role. You will be a present and driven leader who will passionately lead a team of direct reports, ensuring that all HR/people management, performance conversations, upskilling and training is kept up to date, consistent and regular. Within this, you will keep abreast of all the company policies and take action as necessary with your team. With a true commitment and dedication to your people, you will be a detailed and curious leader with a genuine interest in what makes your team strive for success.

We operate in a fast moving and ever-reactive business. You will be a diligent enforcer of the key Health and Safety protocols and actions, ensuring that any incident is fully investigated and that all documentation is produced and presented to your Manager. You will inform your Manager of any serious welfare problems that may affect the performance of any employee, breaches of discipline, bad working practices or non-compliance with Health and Safety requirements. You will also assist your Manager in ensuring that all new employees receive induction training, and record this on our HR system.

You will be present and persistent in your checking and reviewing of the wide variety of areas in which you would cover and be accountable for in your remit. You will introduce and oversee the recycling activity within the function; training and coaching your team of Operatives to ensure they collect and dispose of waste in line with our sustainability commitments. You will help manage the use of, ordering of and storage of cleaning materials, uniforms and equipment ensuring that they are always safe, available and that the teams are confidently trained.

You must be able to work 5 out of 7 days on a rota pattern – this includes weekends, evenings and bank holidays. This role could work on either an AM, PM or night shift pattern.

About You

You will have experience in a cleaning environment, or a similar organisation which requires this type of reactive and proactive mentality, for example managing a shift team in a large supermarket or a production line where standards are extremely high.

You will also:

  1. Have a strong HR policy awareness and will enforce and refer to these to ensure we operate what is right for our people at all times.
  2. Be a natural problem solver – always motivated by a fresh challenge or obstacle, you are solution focused.
  3. Be a manager who spends regular and good quality time at the front of the operation with your operatives and team leaders.
  4. Demonstrate resilience – this is key, and your calm approach and level thinking are valued.
  5. Be self-aware, with an astute emotional intelligence – you are able to really get to the heart of the challenges, issues or problems that an individual or team are facing.
