Job description

To be a great Store Manager at one of our convenience stores, you don’t necessarily need retail experience. Surprised? If you’re a leader who can inspire your team to delight customers every day, by analysing reports and data and transforming that insight into actionable improvements that your team understand and can get behind, then you’ll flourish in this role.

What you’ll be doing

While your team of Customer and Trading Managers will run the shifts and manage the day-to-day operations, you’ll have ultimate control of how the store performs. You’ll be a visible and accountable leader — finding, solving, and anticipating issues now and six months from now, so that everything runs smoothly.

You’ll need to ensure everything is safe and legal for customers and staff. You’ll also develop all the talent in your teams, making sure there’s a pipeline of motivated and capable individuals ready to move into management roles and beyond.

5S ONLY

You could even be covering two stores at once — as Store Manager in two of our convenience stores. This will involve dividing your time between them and staying on top of what’s happening in both.

Who you are

You can lead and inspire a large team to deliver better experiences for our customers. You’re proactive in seeking out and solving problems by being present on the shop floor, motivating your teams, and being a visible leader.

Your starting point will be the valuable data we generate daily — analysing trends, translating insights into actionable activities, and prioritising those that bring the most value to your store. To operate at your best, you’ll have access to the latest technology, including handheld devices, enabling you to be mobile and effective rather than confined to a desk or screen.

How you’ll progress

This role provides the experience needed to advance into senior management roles within larger Sainsbury’s stores, should that be your goal. The extensive Sainsbury’s network offers plenty of opportunities, with stores of various sizes in your area. Show us what you can do, and we’ll support your development every step of the way.

What we’ll give you

We offer numerous opportunities for career development. Salary will depend on your experience, store size, complexity, and location. Additionally, we provide a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Private Healthcare — eligible for single cover, with an annual upgrade option for family cover.
  • Interest-free car loan of up to £10,000.
  • An annual bonus scheme based on company and individual performance.
  • Discount card — 10% off shopping at Sainsbury’s, Argos, Tu, and Habitat after four weeks. This increases to 15% discount at Sainsbury’s every Friday and Saturday, and 15% off at Argos every payday.
  • Generous holiday entitlement, plus maternity and paternity leave.
  • Pension scheme — we’ll match 4-7.5% of your contributions.
  • Sainsbury’s share scheme — build up an investment at discounted prices.
  • Wellbeing support — access to emotional support, counseling, legal, and financial advice.
  • Colleague networks — connect with like-minded colleagues to help fulfill your potential.
  • Cycle to Work scheme — hire a bike and cycling equipment, saving on tax and NI.
  • Special offers on gym memberships, restaurants, holidays, retail vouchers, and more.
