Job summary

The British Museum is seeking an Assistant Collection Manager for Storage and Moves (Rehouse) in Reading. This hands-on role focuses on large three‑dimensional stone objects, with emphasis on careful handling, measurement, documentation and packing to support a major storage move.

You will collaborate with conservation, curatorial, and collections teams while gaining experience in large‑object handling and storage procedures.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates collaboration and ability to work as part of a team.
• Shows good manual dexterity and appreciation of different materials.
• Willing to undertake practical collections work including physical handling.
• Capable of precise measurement, checking and documenting objects.
• Good IT skills and accurate record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Receive objects from deliveries, perform condition checks and record accurate measurements.
• Move and rehouse objects onto large-scale pallet racking, ensuring safe storage.
