Job description

Our client, a tier-one global investment bank, is seeking an experienced Storage Engineer to join its Storage Engineering function within the firm's enterprise technology division. The team is responsible for delivering robust data protection services to internal stakeholders across the organisation, leveraging a combination of leading third-party platforms and bespoke, in-house solutions.

While the team maintains close collaboration with operations and provides troubleshooting support where required, its primary focus is engineering: developing innovative products and integrating third-party storage technologies into the bank's environment. The successful candidate will operate as an extension of the core engineering team, contributing to the testing and certification of the technologies that underpin the firm's storage and data protection estate. The breadth of the remit offers exposure to a diverse and evolving range of technical challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Storage Engineering: Apply in-depth knowledge of open-systems storage to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of the bank's storage and data protection services.
• Testing and Certification: Contribute to the evaluation, testing and certification of selected storage technologies in partnership with the core engineering team.
• Product Integration: Lead and support third-party product integration initiatives, and contribute to the development of in-house products and tooling.
• Scripting and Automation: Develop, review and maintain code, primarily in Python or Perl, to support testing, integration and automation activities.
• Operational Partnership: Work closely with operations teams to support incident troubleshooting and issue resolution as required.

Required Skills

• Comprehensive understanding of open-systems storage technologies and architecture.
• Working knowledge of coding, ideally in Python or Perl. Deep software engineering expertise is not essential, given the capabilities of modern AI-assisted tooling; however, candidates should be confident reading, understanding and working with code.
• Ideally 5–8 years of relevant experience in storage engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Ability to work on-site at the client's Glasgow office three days per week.
• Hands-on experience with Pure FlashBlade will be considered a significant advantage.
• Background in data protection, backup and recovery technologies.
• Experience testing or certifying enterprise infrastructure within a large-scale, regulated environment.
