Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Stop Smoking Project Officer based in the Public Health Team!

This is a full-time, fixed-term role until July 2026 (with possible extension) and with a salary of £28,193 to £32,104 per annum.

About us

The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM) is set in the wider county of Berkshire, one of the most economically productive and innovative areas of the country. The borough council – a unitary authority - takes pride in its exceptional team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about providing quality services to the community. RBWM is a unique borough, with huge opportunity given its proximity to London and expanding business sectors, as well as being a major cultural and tourism area which includes international attractions such as Windsor Castle, Legoland and Ascot Racecourse.

Given our Royal connections, the eyes of the world are often on us and we continue to rise to the challenge.

About the role

Are you passionate and confident about tackling health inequalities and supporting people to live well? Do you want to play a key role in influencing people to quit smoking, ensuring our service reaches every part of the community? Are you proactive and can work independently, using your initiative to promote the service by developing community relationships? Then come and join us at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

Public Health has secured funding for a 1-year fixed term post to coordinate borough wide community access to the Stop Smoking Service. You will work in collaboration with the service to continue developing relationships with other local services, private businesses, and the voluntary and community sector, as well as play a vital role in the Contract Management and Monitoring of the Stop Smoking Service.

Your key responsibilities will include

  • Supporting the Stop Smoking Service to develop and co-ordinate stop smoking clinics and drop ins across the Borough.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with partners and other agencies.
  • Identify priority groups and ensure service accessibility.
  • Provide robust business support, developing and maintaining clear documentation including project, action and risk management logs.
  • Collecting and collating relevant data from spreadsheets and databases to support local and national reporting requirements.
  • Working in collaboration with the South East Stop Smoking Regional Coordinator and colleagues within the South East to share best practice ideas and promote agreed key messages locally.
  • Assist the Public Health Contracts and Commissioning Service Lead and Programme Officer with the reporting and financial management of the Local Stop Smoking Service Grant.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a dynamic professional with experience of engaging and influencing organisations and the public and who has:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Previous experience of working with community services to achieve results.
  • Experience of using IT systems including Microsoft Office and Excel to compile reports and spreadsheets.
  • Previous experience of collecting and collating information and data and developing these into management reports.
  • Confident and approachable, with the ability to build rapport quickly and easily.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, and the ability to use own initiative to deliver projects successfully.
  • An understanding of Public Health and Local Government processes.

What we offer

  • 32 days annual leave.
  • Flexible working including a hybrid working pattern for a better work-life balance.
  • Generous Local Government Pension scheme includes life cover (3 times of annual salary); and an Additional Voluntary Contribution (AVC) scheme to enhance your pension provision.
  • Free employee parking close to the offices.
  • Give As You Earn scheme.
  • Instant Reward Scheme to recognise and reward innovative achievement.
  • Employee Assistance Programme providing counselling, advice and information.
  • Access to discounts and deals with hundreds of retailers, including discounted gym memberships and travel deals.

RBWM values a collaborative and inclusive work environment, fostering creativity and innovation in all aspects of its operations. As an equal opportunities’ employer, we encourage applications from all as we believe diverse talent makes us stronger.

If you have a disability, are a current or former member of the armed forces or have been part of any formal care system up to the age of 25, you will be guaranteed an interview, should you meet the minimum requirements for the role.

Interview dates: w/c Monday 9th June
