Stop Smoking Practitioner (Development Role 3-4)

Are you passionate about behaviour change? We have an exciting role available at Smokefree Knowsley as an advisor to help achieve our commitment to reduce the prevalence of smoking and tackle health inequalities for the people of Knowsley. We are offering a flexible and varied role, training, working as part of a dynamic team, hybrid working, and community-based interventions and prevention.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person to join our team in Knowsley. The successful candidate will deliver stop smoking advice and support to service users in various settings, including face-to-face, telephone, and community promotion. If you have good people skills, the ability to support and motivate others, and work well in a team, we would like to hear from you.

Person Specification
Experience
  • Demonstrable experience working with community groups, voluntary organizations, or in a GP practice
  • Knowledge and experience of IT systems, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience in data collection, service monitoring, and evaluation
  • Experience supporting individuals on a one-to-one basis
  • Ability to identify, assess, and manage risk when working with individuals
  • Experience building relationships and partnerships
  • Experience working collaboratively with healthcare and non-healthcare professionals to meet patient needs
Qualifications
  • Commitment to professional and personal development
  • Willingness to complete the NCSCT CHCP Health Trainer training course
  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject, or significant healthcare experience
  • Training in motivational coaching/interviewing or equivalent experience
Knowledge
  • Understanding of voluntary and community sector roles and contributions to health and wellbeing
  • Knowledge of local communities, resources, and assets, and willingness to work collaboratively with local agencies
  • Knowledge of behaviour change theories and approaches
  • Understanding factors influencing health and wellbeing
  • Knowledge of the wider determinants of health, including social, economic, and environmental factors
  • Understanding community development and asset-based approaches
  • Knowledge of record-keeping and information governance
  • Knowledge of health and safety related to risk assessments for venues and home visits
  • Understanding of the personalized care approach
  • Awareness of health and social care infrastructure and service provision
  • Ability to identify when to refer individuals to other health professionals or agencies
  • Specialist knowledge of a wider determinant of health, such as mental health, housing, or finance, with a commitment to ongoing learning
  • Understanding barriers to becoming Smokefree and strategies to overcome them
