Make a Difference – Manage the UK's Explosive Safety and Security

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) is seeking a meticulous and proactive Stockpile Manager to join our Energetics Enclosure Management Team (EEMT). You will play a vital role in ensuring the safety, security, and regulatory compliance of Ordnance, Munitions & Explosives (OME) across their entire lifecycle – from acquisition to disposal.

Job responsibilities
  • Ensure procedural compliance for procurement, receipt, storage, use, transport, and disposal of OME.
  • Manage OME stockpiles in line with through-life plans and safety cases, maintaining risks at ALARP.
  • Maintain secure, accurate data records, ensuring appropriate security classification and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate communication and enforcement of bans or quarantine notices with the Magazine Manager.
  • Perform and record mandatory stock checks, ensuring 100% verification and compliance with ACTO regulations.
  • Lead for Dstl in managing the Common Acquisition Support Plan (CASP), liaising with Front Line Commands and DE&S.
Person specification
Qualifications & Memberships
  • GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C or above in English and Mathematics.
  • Degree, NVQ, or military experience in an OME-related discipline.
  • Full UK manual driving licence.
  • Membership of the Institute of Explosive Engineers (IExpE).
Technical Skills & Experience
  • Experience in through-life management and assurance of OME stockpiles.
  • Strong knowledge of explosive safety and security regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to identify process gaps, implement improvements, and manage competing demands with attention to detail.

Additional information

This role requires UK nationality and the ability to obtain high-level security clearance. You should have resided in the UK for the past 5 years; some roles may require 10 years for Developed Vetting. International or dual nationals with relevant skills are encouraged to apply through our partners.

Qualifications include Mathematics GCSE grade C or above, English GCSE grade C or above, and a relevant degree or military experience. Membership of IExpE is required.
