There is an excellent opportunity to join SSL sterile services at an entry-level and receive world-class training to get you on to a defined career pathway.

Training and Working Pattern

12 weeks training. During the first 2 weeks, you are expected to attend training at 9:00-17:00. Thereafter, the training will continue during your regular shift hours which are full-time, 37.5 hrs per week on Tuesday at 13:00-21:00, Wednesday at 7:00-15:00, Thursday at 13:00-2:00, Friday and Saturday at 7:00-15:00.

What is involved?
  • Ensuring the effective preparation of sterile consumables, instruments, and equipment by the process of decontamination, inspection assembly and packing within predefined quality standards.
  • Rigorously checking instruments, laying up and packing sets of theatre instruments in trays to meet contract specifications within predefined quality standards.
  • Safely operating and monitoring machines and equipment used in the decontamination and sterilisation of surgical instruments.
  • Ensuring that repairs and missing instruments or equipment are recorded and logged on the Tracking and Traceability computer system (SynergyTrak).
  • Ensuring that repaired instruments or equipment are returned to stock or the appropriate coded sets or the Trust’s appointed person.

  • Educated to a good general standard with demonstrable verbal and numerical abilities.
