Job summary

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is seeking a decontamination operative responsible for the cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment used across theatres, wards and clinical areas.

You will ensure items are prepared to the highest standards, operate decontamination equipment, perform quality checks and maintain accurate records while supporting stock control and safe storage, communicating effectively with teams.

  • Operate and maintain decontamination equipment; perform quality checks; record documentation; assist with stock control and safe storage; communicate with clinical teams.

Job description

Responsible for carrying out tasks related to the decontamination process, including the cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment. These items are prepared to ensure they are safe and ready for use in patient treatment across Theatres, Wards, and other clinical departments, in compliance with established protocols and infection control standards.

  • Cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing, and sterilisation of medical instruments and equipment.
  • Ensuring all items are prepared to the highest standards for use in Theatres, Wards, and other clinical departments.
  • Operate and maintain decontamination equipment in accordance with departmental protocols and manufacturer guidelines. Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with infection control and health & safety standards. Accurately record and maintain documentation relating to instrument processing and traceability. Assist with stock control and the safe storage of sterile items. Communicate effectively with colleagues and clinical teams to support service delivery.
Travel duties (as required)
  • Transport sterile instruments and equipment between hospital sites or departments.
  • Ensure safe handling and secure delivery of items in line with HB policies.
