Job summary

Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is seeking a Sterile Services Technician to support the decontamination process across Theatres, Wards and clinical areas. The role covers cleaning, disinfection, packing and sterilisation of medical instruments in line with infection control standards.

The post is fixed/secondment for 12 months to cover service needs. Welsh Desirable language skills at Level 3+ are considered during shortlisting.

Qualifications

• IDSc Technical Certificate or Level 3 Decontamination or equivalent knowledge/experience.
• Knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
• Experience in Sterile Services.
• Desirable: ISO13485:2016 and UKMDR 2002 familiarity; Welsh language level 3 or above desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out decontamination tasks: cleaning, disinfection, inspection, packing and sterilisation.
• Ensure items are prepared to the highest standards for theatres, wards and clinical departments.
• Operate and maintain decontamination equipment; perform quality checks for infection control compliance.
• Record instrument processing documentation and assist with stock control and safe storage.
• Transport sterile instruments between hospital sites as required.

Operate and maintain decontamination equipment in accordance with departmental protocols and manufacturer guidelines. Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with infection control and health & safety standards. Accurately record and maintain documentation relating to instrument processing and traceability. Assist with stock control and the safe storage of sterile items. Communicate effectively with colleagues and clinical teams to support service delivery.

Travel duties (as required):

• Transport sterile instruments and equipment between hospital sites or departments.
• Ensure safe handling and secure delivery of items in line with HB policies.
