Job description
Overview

St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – Sterile Services Technician. The closing date is 03 October 2025.

To work in a collaborative and supportive environment with members of the multidisciplinary team. To carry out tasks delegated from professionally qualified staff, requiring a wide range of technical ability, numeracy and literacy skills as well as interpersonal skills and manual dexterity (disassembly, inspection, decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilisation of surgical instrumentation to predetermined standards). To be flexible in the approach to the production areas and provide cover for any area specified. Assist in training of new members of the team.

Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit motivated, reliable staff to work in our department, who enjoy working within a team.

Previous decontamination experience is not essential as we provide our own training scheme, based on current standards. The training is compulsory for all members of staff.

Please note that all successful candidates will be required to rotate through the following shifts: 0600-1400; 1200-2000; 1400-2200; 2200-0600 including weekends and Bank holidays.

This is a physically demanding post involves high level of manual handling with long periods of standing.

Job responsibilities

The care, maintenance, training and record keeping of all equipment and accessories that require decontamination. Testing and record keeping of the decontamination equipment. To adhere to the standards of decontamination in line with Trust policy, local, national and international standards and guidance. Decontamination of medical devices used in theatres and various outpatients clinics.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
  • Able to read, write and effectively communicate in English
  • Demonstrate literacy and numeracy
  • IDSc Technical Certificate or equivalent
Experience/Knowledge
  • Transferrable Hospital / industry experience/skills including working with Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.P) or similar
  • Previous SSD/CSSD experience
  • Basic understanding of decontamination processes
  • Able to identify different surgical instruments
Skills
