Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust is hiring a Sterile Services Technician for the Broomfield Hospital Sterile Supplies Department. The role involves washing, inspecting, packing and sterilising surgical instruments, supporting Theatre complex and clinical areas.

Open 24 hours Monday to Friday and 8:00am–4:00pm on weekends and Bank Holidays; you will work on a rota with shifts. Training provided; prior SSD experience is helpful but not essential. A supportive team environment awaits.

The Broomfield Hospital Sterile Supplies Department is a friendly, fast-paced unit providing high-quality sterile packs and surgical instruments to the Trust's Theatre complex and a range of clinical areas.

We're looking for people who are methodical, meticulous and committed to delivering an exceptional decontamination service. In this role, you will wash, inspect, pack and sterilise surgical instruments, playing a vital part in ensuring the safety and quality of care for our patients and customers.

Main duties of the job

The Sterile Services Department based at Broomfield Hospital is open 24 hours (Monday to Friday) and 8:00am to 4:00pm on a Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

You will be required to work on a rota basis with shifts betweenthe above hours (Monday to Friday), Bank Holidays and Weekends and night shifts. These hours are subject to change to meet the needs of the Trust.

You are required to be able to demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and person specification. Experience is an advantage however this is not essential. You must be able to follow processes and instruction while being self-motivated and showing initiative.

Person Specification

Education & Qualification

• Basic literacy and numeracy skills (e.g., GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths).
• Good interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team and communicate with colleagues.

Knowledge & Experience

• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks
• Capable of lifting and moving trays and equipment
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
• Experience of working in an SSD or Hospital
