To carry out day-to-day supervision of staff involved in the disinfection and sterilisation of surgical instrumentation and re-usable equipment before use in the treatment of patients.
Ensure comprehensive supervision of all sterile services assistants, providing initial and ongoing training aligned with the departmental Quality Management System. Maintain precise training records and conduct regular competency assessments.

Efficiently manage staff rotas, quarantine any non-conforming sets, and diligently record the details of any non-conformance. Complete the authorisation and issuance of decontamination certificates. Advise on raw material stock levels and requirements. Operate Washer/Disinfectors, Sterilisers, and other associated machinery such as ultrasonic irrigators and heat sealers. Perform appropriate checks and tests on all equipment, completing the necessary documentation in accordance with the Quality Management System. Demonstrate activities to other staff, including loan instrumentation and the related pictorial and written instructions for the decontamination process. Scan and type data as part of the tracking system, a requirement of the department's Quality Management System. Communicate effectively with all service users, including all grades of theatre staff. Develop the ability to understand, interpret, and respond to service users' requests, even when there are barriers to understanding.
