Job description

World Class Defence Organisation based in Bolton is currently looking to recruit a Stereolith Engineer subcontractor on an initial 12 month contract, with very likely extension.


Must have CAD experience (Creo or SOLIDWORKS / CATIA / FUSION360) and experience with 3D print software, can be printer specific.

Does not need to be tool design level CAD – relatively basic understanding of CAD would be acceptable – will not be working on the design team, but will be liaising with them to improve print designs.

Will be working with a Resin based 3D printer, not a filament based printer.

Rate: £36.00 per hour

Overtime Rate: Hours worked over 37 hours/week paid at ‘time and a quarter’

Location: Bolton

Hybrid / Remote working: Onsite 5 days/week

Duration: 12 months with very likely extension. Contracts are often ongoing and long-term thereafter.

IR35 status: Inside IR35 (Umbrella)

Job Description:

The Stereolithography department provides plastics rapid prototyping 3D printing solutions, utilizing the latest equipment, materials, and software to print design models, prototypes, tooling, and display models.

An opportunity exists for a senior engineer to support the 3D printing manufacturing process, equipment upgrades, and maintain full facility capability throughout the year.

This role involves printing CAD models from design engineers supporting various projects, supporting trials of new resin materials and equipment, and reporting to the Principal Manufacturing Engineer who provides training and support.

Manufacturing/Process engineer experience with 3D printing, CAD, prototyping, or tooling design is beneficial. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, analytical ability, and proficiency with MS Office are required.

Key Duties:
  • Log and assess print requests for optimal outcomes.
  • Use Materialise Magics for print setup, support generation, and program creation.
  • Generate and complete manufacturing route cards.
  • Support full manufacturing of 3D printed parts, including handling hazardous materials following safety protocols.
  • Maintain stock of consumables and calibrate printers, liaising with service contractors.
  • Perform general housekeeping and site maintenance.
  • Identify and prevent equipment/process issues.
  • Follow work instructions, maintain quality standards, and keep clients informed.
  • Lead process improvements and update procedures accordingly.
  • Use Creo and Magics to prepare CAD models for printing, with occasional CAD modifications.
  • Stay updated on latest 3D printing technology.
