STE2 Reviewing Engineer

An opportunity to join an established consultancy firm specializing in rail infrastructure, safety, and engineering services across the UK. The company is known for its expertise in various aspects of railway infrastructure, including site investigations, civil engineering, rail training, compliance, and track security.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and growing company that is renowned for its expertise in the rail sector. The company operates nationwide, and you will be working across the Network Rail Eastern and North West & Central Regions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Review engineering drawings, plans, and specifications related to rail infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and design standards.
  2. Monitor and assess the implementation of engineering work against project documentation and safety requirements, ensuring adherence to railway standards and regulations (e.g., RINA, RISQS).
  3. Perform risk assessments and safety checks, identifying and mitigating potential safety or operational issues. Provide technical recommendations and corrective actions.
  4. Maintain detailed records of review findings, approvals, and assessments. Produce comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  5. Collaborate with engineering teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies to meet project milestones and address design or safety concerns promptly.
  6. Participate in audits, inspections, and field reviews to verify project quality and safety. Review contractors' documentation and ensure corrective actions are taken when needed.
  7. Conduct detailed reviews of railway infrastructure assets, including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, viaducts, and ancillary assets.
  8. Ensure all assets are safe, compliant with standards, and in good condition for passengers and freight services.
  9. Interpret inspection findings, identify defects, and produce reports on structural conditions and remedial actions. Make engineering decisions based on structural assessments and deterioration rates.
  10. Recommend maintenance and repair strategies, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance. Contribute to long-term asset management planning.
  11. Mentor and guide team members, sharing technical expertise to develop their skills and uphold high standards.
  12. Ensure activities adhere to Network Rail's standards and best practices, maintaining consistency across the region.
  13. Take responsibility for recommendations and decisions, grounded in solid engineering judgment and industry standards.

Experience Required:

  1. Civil Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
  2. Experience inspecting and assessing railway structures such as bridges, viaducts, retaining walls, and culverts.
  3. Proficiency in inspection techniques for evaluating railway infrastructure conditions.
  4. Ability to identify defects and assess deterioration considering environmental and causal factors.
  5. Knowledge of Network Rail's standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements for infrastructure inspection, maintenance, and repair.
  6. Experience training and mentoring staff in technical engineering roles.
  7. Ideally, experience with masonry, metallic, concrete, and timber structures.
