Job description

Overview

Element has a superb opportunity for a Statutory Accountant to join our growing Global Business Services team (GBS) in Edinburgh on a permanent basis. Reporting to the Senior Technical Finance Manager, the role is part of the GBS Statutory Reporting team responsible for the preparation and filing of financial statements for the Group’s UK legal entities and co-ordination of external audit deliverables.

Responsibilities
  • Working as part of a team to deliver annual statutory reporting and external audits to timetable
  • Preparation of extended trial balances and statutory financial statements for all assigned legal entities, principally under FRS 101
  • Utilising Workiva software to prepare and complete all assigned statutory financial statements
  • Supporting internal / external audit processes and ensuring an effective control environment
  • Liaising with the GBS Tax Team regarding year-end provisioning and timely submission of corporation tax packs for CT600 filing
  • Partnering Business Unit GL teams to commercially understand and substantiate core group accounting basis results and balance sheet reconciliations ahead of statutory preparation
  • Supporting the transition to a new statutory general ledger posting layer in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and further enhancement of underlying processes ahead of 2025 year-end close
  • Regular reconciliation of right-of-use asset and liability general ledger balances to Lease Harbor end-to-end lease accounting software
  • Quarterly reconciliation of group accounting basis results to local GAAP basis financial results
  • Working as part of a team to leverage ‘Phase 2’ improvements to new statutory reporting tools
  • Providing support to EMEAA CFO, GBS Shared Services Director, Senior Technical Finance Manager, Group Tax Manager, Senior Financial Accountant, and GBS GL Teams as required
  • Documentation of procedures and actively contributing towards wider process improvements
  • Ad hoc duties as and when required to support GBS finance applications and initiatives
Skills / Qualifications

• Qualified ICAS, ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant with experience in a relevant finance role
• Financial reporting and finance systems experience gained in a complex group organisation and/or large entity Business Services reporting experience in practice
• Strong FRS101 and FRS102 technical accounting knowledge (particularly IFRS9 and IFRS16) and a robust analytical ability to challenge underlying financial results
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and build relationships with individuals at all levels in the organisation
• Ability to prioritise and work within a fast-paced, dynamically changing environment
• Experience of Microsoft Dynamics 365, Navision, Board, Blackline, Workiva, and Lease Harbor desirable (training will be provided)
• Demonstrable knowledge of intercompany and internal group recharge processes
• A well-organised, proactive self-starter able to work both autonomously and as part of a team
• Display a positive, can-do attitude and foster a culture of continuous improvement
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ability to manipulate large data sets effectively
• Effective operation of core ERP and Business Intelligence systems
