The successful Statistician will help develop methods to address selection biases in the recruitment and collection of data from participants. As part of the Science team, you will also provide statistical and scientific support to other cross-functional teams within Our Future Health. If you are looking for a new challenge working in an agile, tech-enabled health research organisation, we'd like to see your application.

Our Future Health will be the UK's largest ever health research programme, bringing people together to develop new ways to detect, prevent, and treat diseases. We are a charity, supported by the UK Government, in partnership with charities and industry. We work closely with the NHS and with public authorities across all nations and regions of the UK.

Our plan is to bring together 5 million volunteers from right across the UK who will be asked to contribute information to help build one of the most detailed pictures we have ever had of people's health. Researchers will be able to use this information to make new discoveries about human health and diseases. So future generations can live in good health for longer.

What you'll be doing:

In this role, you will work with the Director of Science and Biostatistics and cross-functional teams to help ensure the quality and utility of the Our Future Health research resource and other data products. This will support scientific aspects of the programme including: Design of the cohort and additional data collections, understanding cohort diversity and representativeness, creating scientifically valuable data products and data quality assessment.

Your key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Developing statistical weights to improve representativeness of analyses using Our Future Health data
  • Working with Operations and Data teams to acquire and collate data to support non-response analysis
  • Conducting data analysis with Science, Population Health Insights, and other cross-functional teams
  • Providing statistical expertise in the development of new questionnaires and other data collections
  • Supporting the development of new data products and services to maximise their scientific value

Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will have experience of working with large, population-based surveys and knowledge of methods of adjusting for non-representativeness, including statistical weights such as non-response weights. You will also have some of the following skills:

  • A PhD or MSc with relevant experience in statistics or a related subject in biomedicine
  • Excellent understanding of statistical concepts and methods, and their application to epidemiology
  • Experience in analysis of large complex health datasets
  • Proficiency in R or Python

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication skills with scientific, technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Experience presenting research results, and an ability to represent the team at external meetings
  • Enthusiasm for working in agile, cross-functional teams
  • Interest in developing scientific data products to support research user needs
  • A pragmatic outlook and ability to prioritise
