Qualifications
  • Be currently employed by a UK Fire and Rescue Service.
  • Be a substantive and competent Watch Manager.
  • Hold and maintain all qualifications required for your current role.
  • Have completed and maintained all role‑related courses within the required refresher periods.
  • Have no current or outstanding development action plans, performance improvement action plans or capability issues related to competency.
  • Be free of current formal disciplinary awards throughout the entire process.
  • Possess an IFE Level 3 Diploma in Fire Engineering and Science or a Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety.
  • Possess an IFE Level 4 Certificate in Fire Service Operations.

Application Process
  • 1. Application Form.
  • 2. Pathway Online Career Progression Gateway (CPG) – an online assessment evaluating performance, knowledge, skills and behaviours with two exercises:
    • Case study exercise – timed written response.
    • Role‑play exercise – video interview scenario.
  • 3. Intermediate Command Assurance – assessed against Skills for Justice Intermediate Incident Command scoring criteria.
  • 4. Interview and Presentation – a 15‑minute presentation (title supplied beforehand) followed by a 60‑minute interview.
  • 5. Phase 2 and 3 of the Development Portfolio – substantively developed roles; successful applicants will be paid at development rate and required to complete the development programme.
  • 6. Competent in Role sign‑off – upon completion of the development pack, Learning and Development review and sign‑off award competent pay.
