Position Description

A vacancy exists for the position of Station Manager, Coolkeeragh Power Station. Coolkeeragh Power Station comprises a 400MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine’s (CCGT’s) and 56MW OCGT and is located at Maydown, N.Ireland.

As part of the senior leadership group, this is a key role providing leadership, direction and input to strategy both within Generation and Trading and across the wider ESB organisation. Senior managers are responsible for the delivery of business targets through the effective management of people and processes in a safe and cost effective manner.

They are also accountable for significant revenue generating streams, and are expected to deliver strong financial outcomes through individual and team performance against stretch targets. Creating an innovative culture, embracing digital opportunities, enabling collaboration across the wider organisation and leveraging staff capability and talent are critical to improved performance in the delivery of business objectives. In addition, the delivery of organisational change is also a key responsibility, with accountability for the sustained transition to the new organisation structure and implementing new ways of working.

As part of the wider Senior Management team across ESB, the individual will be required to demonstrate leadership behaviours which uphold our values and drive positive engagement across the teams they lead.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of this role include the following:

  • Leading the Coolkeeragh management team and Coolkeeragh staff
  • Through the Safety Leadership Framework, incorporating Safe and Sound and Safe System of Work, manage Coolkeeragh Station to achieve an incident and injury free work environment.
  • Lead the development of key business goals and targets and take responsibility for their delivery.
  • Ensure overall operating effectiveness to deliver best practice plant performance in terms of availability, efficiency and reliability.
  • Drive technical and operational innovation to achieve improvements in plant performance, with a particular focus on the reliable provision of system services.
  • Ensure continuous development of a high-performance culture, with an emphasis on empowerment through engagement, involvement, accountability and key performance measures.
  • Contribute to the overall success of Coolkeeragh, Generation and Trading and ESB.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • A track record of effective management of safety either through the line or through managing significant projects
  • Significant management experience with a proven track record of effective management of safety either through the line or through managing significant projects.
  • Experience and success in delivering business objectives.
  • A leadership and management style which actively encourages a culture of engagement, involvement, teamwork and individual development.
  • Proven record of being results and customer focused.
  • Strong individual leadership skills with a strategic outlook.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, people and customer skills.
  • Relevant experience in power plant operations, maintenance, technology, systems and procedures.

The successful person will be based in Coolkeeragh Power Station.
