Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced Systems Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team. You’ll be working in a part of Telent that is dedicated to maintaining the UK wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Safety and Security Engineer, the system engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrade works mainly across Network Rail, TFL, TFGM, etc. infrastructure. Acting as the systems engineer for customer projects, you will undertake all technical aspects, including survey, design, and technical aspects of SISS within a Rail environment.

Typical Deliverables

  • Strong experience in system design, survey, and technical engineering within SISS.
  • Lead on creating ideas for new products or services and drawing up plans for new designs.
  • Taking ideas from initial design to production and installation.
  • Drawing detailed technical plans for ideas and concepts.
  • Using mathematical and scientific skills to create real-world solutions.
  • Selecting appropriate materials for new products or constructions.
  • Calculating accurate cost analysis forecasts.
  • Completing technical and regulatory documents.
  • Ensuring quality-control tests and overseeing construction, development, and deployment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of professional engineering disciplines and related areas.
  • Arrange testing of products, systems, software, or infrastructure.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Develop personal engineering skills.
  • Solve complex problems with new perspectives.
  • Work independently with minimal guidance.
  • Lead projects or project steps, with accountability for ongoing activities.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Comply with QEHS requirements.

Skill Requirements

  • Previous technical SISS experience, including engineering, design, and survey skills.
  • Relevant licenses/certifications.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and other CAD software.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
  • Customer-focused, able to handle stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving passion.
  • Strong analytical and visualization skills.
