Job description

Building a sustainable tomorrow

BAM FM is looking to recruit a site-based Fabric Engineer to be based at the UCLAN West-lakes campus, Whitehaven, Cumbria. The role is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. This is a contract role for up to 3 months, with the possibility of becoming permanent.

Your mission

The Fabric Engineer will be responsible for the building fabric status of the site, carrying out planned maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks across the site.

  • Knowledge and experience with building fault finding
  • Carry out ceiling repair, painting, skirting and facing replacement, door servicing, etc.
  • Identify and order spare parts for repairs
  • Inspect and carry out reactive landscape maintenance tasks, including litter picking
  • Conduct building fabric inspections and fault finding
  • Perform monthly legionella tap temperature checks and flush little-used outlets
  • Supervise subcontractors, ensuring method statements and risk assessments are followed safely
  • Monitor and order stock items
  • Assist with associated services on the site
  • Undertake porterage duties
  • Support health and safety responsibilities
  • Provide general support duties
  • Ensure operation of heating, fire alarm, and lighting systems
  • Take utility meter readings
  • Perform other reasonable duties as required
Who are we looking for?
  • Experience as a Building Fabric Engineer or handyman in a busy service environment
  • Recognised trade qualification or time-served tradesperson
  • Training or experience in H&S regulations, risk assessments, and method statements
  • Self-motivated, able to identify concerns and defects independently
  • Full driving license
  • Reliable and consistent in attendance and attitude
  • Basic plumbing, mechanical, and electrical skills are advantageous
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to use initiative in daily duties
  • Willing to participate in a 1-in-3 on-call rota
