If you’re a static equipment specialist who thrives in early-stage problem-solving and sets technical direction that others can confidently build on, this is a fantastic opportunity with a hiring client in Reading. You’ll help shape standards, guide design and analysis, and ensure critical mechanical assets are optimised for safety, compliance and cost effectiveness.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Demonstrating breadth across the mechanical (static equipment) discipline, from pressure vessels and towers/reactors to heat exchangers and cryogenic cold boxes
  • Providing technical oversight and guidance to contractor-led design, analysis, and maintenance of static equipment
  • Owning and developing static equipment standards for the project, optimising design concepts and equipment selection during pre-FEED and FEED
  • Identifying critical deliverables and calculations, prioritising reviews to confirm compliance with regulatory, industry and project standards-while supporting cost effectiveness
  • Applying risk-based evaluation of deviations to standards and guidance on interpretation
  • Using stress analysis to spot potential equipment design optimisations and improvement opportunities, including new technologies, tools and methods
  • Evaluating mechanical integrity and suitability for continued operation of existing equipment using fitness-for-service codes, risk management principles, and project operating conditions
  • Identifying critical project equipment and prioritising engineering surveillance strategies, optimisation work, and technology deployment
What you’ll bring:
  • Proven depth across relevant static equipment classes, including general pressure vessels/towers/reactors & internals, high alloy/high pressure or heavy wall reactors and internals, and complex heat exchanger types
  • Strong awareness of mechanical considerations and material selection for risks seen in steam cracking, high pressure hydroprocessing, sulphur/amine services and other refinery units
  • Confidence interpreting standards and making risk-informed decisions when deviations are proposed
  • A collaborative leadership style that works well with other disciplines to anticipate and resolve issues while capturing value
