Overview
Role summary

As a Standards Governance and Systems Manager (internally known as Senior Standards Manager), you will manage end-to-end processes throughout the lifecycle of railway standards, acting as the primary contact for internal and external stakeholders. You will also lead the use of RSSB’s content management tool (Component Content Management System – CCMS).

Team summary

One of RSSB’s functions is to develop railway standards for the Great Britain railway industry. Standards are agreed methods of operation that support the railway as a whole system, help manage risks, open markets, and reduce costs by avoiding reinventing the wheel.

The Standards Management, Policy and Strategy team oversees three workstreams:

  1. Standards management: manages governance arrangements, monitors compliance, and improves policies, processes, and procedures.
  2. Standards delivery: conducts economic assessments, supports business case development, and provides technical regulatory expertise.
  3. Policy and strategy: sets strategic direction and influences legislation in collaboration with industry bodies like the DfT and ORR.
In this role, you will be part of the standards management workstream.
Responsibilities
  • Manage processes supporting standards governance, monitor performance, analyze trends, and generate reports for improvements.
  • Provide excellent support and customer service to stakeholders, representing RSSB as a subject matter expert.
  • Analyze current processes, define future processes, and develop policies with automated workflows for clarity and efficiency.
  • Manage RSSB’s CCMS, develop training, and promote best practices for effective use. Lead digital transformation initiatives.
  • Design and implement solutions to improve process efficiency, including managing user acceptance testing.
  • Develop training materials for new tools and processes.
  • Stay informed on best practices and emerging technologies for process improvement.
  • Support RSSB’s commercial work program.
Qualifications
  • Experience in governance and process management or similar.
  • Experience with structure authoring CCMS or requirements management databases.
  • Stakeholder engagement and customer service experience, including managing supplier relationships.
  • Analytical skills for complex data analysis and insight generation.
  • Understanding of app development, UX, and user acceptance testing.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to influence across all levels of the organization.
  • Effective communication skills tailored to the audience.
