Job summary

BSI in London (Covent Garden) is hiring a Standards Engagement Manager. You will manage a portfolio of committees across safety, food, medical device topics, and facilitate development activities with industry experts and government representatives.

This non-technical role focuses on communication, relationship-building and project management, with a hybrid model requiring office presence twice monthly at Covent Garden.

Responsibilities

• Manage an individual portfolio of standards committees, projects and programmes across a variety of industry sectors.
• Facilitate committee meetings and standards development activities, supporting stakeholders to achieve consensus and deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Build and maintain relationships with industry experts, trade associations, government bodies, consumer representatives and other key stakeholders.
• Monitor sector developments and emerging trends to help shape future standards and committee priorities.
• Identify opportunities for new standards, guidance and strategic initiatives that address emerging issues and support innovation.
• Engage and present at events or meetings relating to standards development and your portfolio of standards activities.
• Represent UK interests in European and international standards development activities where required.
• Lead the delivery of standards projects to agreed timescales, working closely with internal stakeholders.
• Become an expert in standards development procedures to provide advice and support to committee chairs, experts and stakeholders throughout the standards development process.

Join BSI as a Standards Engagement Manager and help shape standards that protect people, improve products and services, and support trusted practices across a range of industries.

This is not a technical, regulatory, or auditing role, and previous standards experience is not required. Instead, we’re looking for a strong communicator with stakeholder engagement, project management, and facilitation skills who can manage a portfolio of standards committees and projects.

About the role:

In this role, you’ll be responsible for a range of committees spanning safety, food and medical device-related topics. You’ll work with industry experts, government representatives, consumer groups, professional bodies and other key stakeholders to develop standards that address current and emerging challenges.

What we’re looking for:

We’re open to exploring all professional backgrounds however, experience in volunteer membership management can be beneficial. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate the following:

• Strong communication and facilitation skills – comfortable leading groups, hosting workshops, and representing the UK at panels or conferences.
• Excellent interpersonal skills – the ability to build credible relationships with a wide range of professionals, drawing out contributions and managing differing opinions constructively.
• Project management skills – capable of juggling multiple projects, deadlines and stakeholders with meticulous attention to detail.
• Proactivity and autonomy – you’ll take ownership of your own portfolio, so a self-starter attitude is key.
• Agility and curiosity – you’ll be adaptable to change whilst demonstrating a willingness to learn.

Other useful information:

This position is based on a hybrid working model, with attendance at our Covent Garden office required twice per month. We welcome applications from candidates based outside London, provided you are able to travel to the office as needed for committee meetings and other business requirements.

Salary:

The salary for this position is up to £42,400 per annum; actual compensation is based on various factors, including but not limited to; candidate competencies, level of experience, education, location, divisional budget and internal peer compensation comparisons.
