Job summary

HID Cardiff is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Customer Facing Tools team, responsible for developing and maintaining our enterprise-scale device management solution. You will design, develop, and support backend services in Java, focusing on LINQ on-premises integrations and ensuring secure, scalable performance across customer environments.

As part of a multinational team, you will work on system integrations connecting software platforms with access control readers and devices,

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (engineering, computer science) or equivalent.
• Experience with Java backend and system integrations.
• Knowledge of REST APIs and WebSocket communication is desirable.
• Experience with LINQ on-premises solutions would be advantageous.

• You will be part of our Customer Facing Tools team under the PACS (Physical Access Control Systems) business area, the PACS products include smart cards, mobile access and identifications, software, services and controllers for physical access control.
• You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of an enterprise scale software solution for the management of physical access devices such as RFID and Biometric readers. This will involve integrating with complex software packages and cloud services.
• You are aware of and continue to self-learn industry best practices & trends.
• You should be self-reliant and resourceful, able to solve problems independently.
• Being that your work will be multinational; communicative English in speaking and writing is required.
• This hybrid opportunity is based in Cardiff. Our current hybrid working model allows 2 remote days per week.

Essential Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience in professional Software Development.
• You should be able to work with minimal supervision.
• You should be self-reliant and resourceful, able to solve problems independently.
• Possess a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (engineering, computer science) or demonstrative equivalent experience.
• Unit testing, and Integration testing.
• Experience in developing networked applications would be desirable.
• Experience in writing integrations to devices over any of the following would also be desirable. (MQTT, Serial, Bluetooth, NFC, UDP, TCP/IP).
• Experience in building REST APIs and WebSocket communication would also be desirable.
• Experience in the use of gRPC would be desirable.
• Experience in the use of Hibernate ORM would be desirable.
• Experience in Secure Software Development Lifecycle (SSDL) would be desirable.

Although not essential, experience in the following would be advantageous:

• Experience of writing software applications in Python would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of cryptographic algorithms and security certification would be a plus.
• Previous experience with RFID technologies / smart cards e.g. NXP Mifare Desfire would be desirable.

• Compliance with all relevant HID Global policies and procedures related to Quality, Security, Safety, Business Continuity, and Environmental systems.
• Travel and fieldwork, including international travel may be required. Therefore, employee must possess, or be able to acquire a valid passport.
