Job summary

BP in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer/Tech Lead to lead a squad within BP's Trading & Shipping technology program. You will design, develop and maintain enterprise-scale software, collaborating with product managers to deliver features and enhancements.

Qualifications

• Strong experience on the backend of a technology product.
• Experience with Java, Spring Boot Microservices, unit tests (JUnit/Mockito), JPA/Hibernate, and debugging distributed apps.
• Some experience with React or another modern frontend framework.
• Solid understanding of SQL and relational DB design.
• Ideally experience with Kubernetes and AWS, including containerised deployment of JEE apps.
• Experience in a full stack team using Agile delivery.
• Skilled in troubleshooting large-scale distributed production systems.
• Passionate about mentoring engineers and coaching across technical and soft skills.
• Product-centric mindset with ability to translate business needs into scalable systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead a squad that is part of a wider program with distributed squads.
• Collaborate with product leads and other technical leads to refine roadmap.
• Raise the technical bar for code quality, testing coverage, monitoring, and observability.
• Deliver customer value iteratively; own projects end-to-end and communicate status to partners.
• Design test automation and coordinate with internal and external teams to bring platforms to market.
• Maintain and enhance software frameworks; mentor engineers and participate in code reviews.
• Support and assist during production issues and audits.
