Job Description:

Workplace Classification: Hybrid – This position does not require full-time onsite presence. Employees are expected to be onsite up to 3 times per week at either our Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team: GM’s Motorsports Software team develops innovative IT solutions for motorsports, supporting NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA teams through cloud-based infrastructure and software development. The team includes analysts, architects, developers, data engineers, testers, and project managers working closely with engineering and race teams to achieve podium finishes.

The Role: As a Staff Engineer, you will lead technical design and implementation of scalable, high-performance systems. You will guide architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and promote innovation, ensuring solutions align with corporate standards and future vision.

Responsibilities:

  • Define and refine system architecture focusing on scalability and business alignment.
  • Engage in coding, prototyping, and code reviews, enforcing best practices.
  • Mentor engineers on design patterns and best practices.
  • Design data flows to optimize performance and usability.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies for productivity and capability improvements.
  • Collaborate across teams to ensure solutions meet business needs.
  • Maintain platform stability and scalability through standards and roadmaps.
  • Promote CI/CD, test automation, and performance optimization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in Java, Python, Kotlin, and front-end frameworks like React.js or Angular.
  • Experience with Kafka, Event Hubs, or Confluent.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL databases (Postgres, MongoDB, Redis).
  • Strong understanding of architecture, design patterns, and modern practices.
  • Experience with networking protocols (REST, WebSockets, gRPC).
  • Proven ability to develop scalable web systems supporting high transaction volumes.

People Skills:

  • Leadership in managing projects and strategic decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years as a staff engineer or technical lead.
  • 10+ years in software development with a focus on architecture.
  • Experience designing global, scalable customer platforms.
  • Leading large-scale eCommerce with microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with telemetry and timing metrics.
  • Motorsports industry experience is a plus.
