Job Description:

Join GM’s Motorsports Software team, which analyzes, defines, and delivers groundbreaking IT software solutions for motorsports. The team uses cloud infrastructure and software development standards to enable innovative interactions between GM Engineering, Motorsports, and Race teams, supporting GM’s NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA sportscar teams.

The Role:

We are seeking a Staff Engineer to lead the design and implementation of scalable, high-performance systems. The role requires expertise in architectural patterns, distributed systems, and emerging technologies, providing strategic guidance, mentoring engineers, and fostering innovation.

Responsibilities:
  1. Define and refine system design focusing on scalability and business alignment.
  2. Engage in coding, prototyping, and code reviews, enforcing best practices.
  3. Mentor engineers in design patterns and architecture.
  4. Design efficient data flows to enhance performance.
  5. Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies.
  6. Collaborate with teams to align solutions with business goals.
  7. Ensure platform stability and scalability.
  8. Promote CI/CD, test automation, and performance optimization.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in Java, Python, Kotlin, and front-end technologies like React.js or Angular.
  • Experience with Kafka, Event Hubs, or Confluent.
  • Familiarity with Azure, AWS, GCP, Docker, Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
  • Experience with REST, WebSockets, gRPC.
  • Proven ability to develop scalable web systems supporting high transactions.
People Skills:
  • Leadership in managing projects and architectural decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years as a staff engineer or leader.
  • 10+ years in software development.
  • Experience designing global, scalable platforms.
  • Experience with microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Knowledge of telemetry and metrics.
  • Experience in motorsports industry is a plus.
