Job Description:

We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead our Motorsports IT software solutions team. This role involves designing scalable, high-performance systems, mentoring engineers, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions that support GM's motorsports racing activities.

Workplace Classification:

Hybrid: Up to 3 days per week onsite at Charlotte or Austin Technical Centers.

The Team:

GM’s Motorsports Software team develops next-generation software solutions for NASCAR, IndyCar, and IMSA teams, utilizing cloud infrastructure and modern development standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Define and refine system design emphasizing scalability and business alignment.
  • Engage in coding, prototyping, and code reviews, enforcing best practices.
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence.
  • Design data flows and evaluate emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with teams to align solutions with business needs.
  • Ensure platform stability and scalability, and advocate for CI/CD and performance optimization.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in Java, Python, Kotlin, and front-end technologies like React.js or Angular.
  • Experience with Kafka, Event Hubs, or Confluent.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Proficiency with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture and design patterns.
  • Experience with networking protocols (REST, WebSockets, gRPC).
  • Proven ability to develop scalable web systems supporting high transaction volumes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Over 3 years as a staff engineer or technical leader.
  • Over 10 years in software development with architectural experience.
  • Experience with global scalable platforms, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with telemetry and motorsports industry experience is a plus.
Additional Information:

Eligible for a company vehicle after review, with a requirement to purchase/lease a GM vehicle every four years. Relocation benefits may be available.
